Akal Academy Baru Sahib, Himachal Pradesh Gatka Players Shine at 8th National Gatka Championship


The 8th National Gatka Championship, held from August 24 to 27 at Mastuana Sahib in Sangrur, witnessed a stellar performance by the students of Akal Academy Baru Sahib, representing Himachal Pradesh. Competing in both the Under-14 and Under-19 categories, the students excelled in both group and individual events, marking a significant milestone in the traditional martial art of Gatka. The championship saw participation from 24 states across the country, making the achievements of these students even more remarkable.In the Under-17 category, Khushnoor Singh of Grade XI made a remarkable achievement by securing third place nationally and clinching a bronze medal in the individual single-stick competition. His exceptional performance has earned him a place in the prestigious Khelo India National Programme for Development of Sports, a testament to his talent and dedication.Under-14 category, Charanjot Singh - 7th Grade secured 10th rank nationally in the individual single-stick competition. In the same age category Gurfateh singh - 7th Grade Rank- 8th rank nationally in the Stick and Leather Shield( Farri - Soti) individual competition.In a single-stick competition,  Navinder singh ( Grade 12th). Meharjot singh (Grade 10th), Khushnoor Singh (Grade 11th), and  Bhawanpreet singh(Grade 12th) delivered exceptional performances to clinch Rank- 8th( nationally) for the team. In the Stick and Leather Shield( Farri - Soti) competition,  Agamjit Singh (Grade  10th), Rajvansh singh (Grade 10th), Gurkirat singh (Grade 10th), Sarabjot Singh (Grade 10th) delivered exceptional performances to clinch Rank- 6th( Nationally) for the team.Adding to the Academy's laurels, both of our teams have also been selected for the Khelo India National Programme for Development of Sports.This recognition underscores the hard work and commitment of the players and their coach, whose contributions have been invaluable to the team's success.The collective efforts of these young athletes have not only brought glory to Akal Academy Baru Sahib and the state of Himachal Pradesh but have also laid a strong foundation for the growth and recognition of Gatka in the region.
